'WE SHALL OVERCOME: THE SEEGER SESSIONS' (COLUMBIA RECORDS) DEBUTS AT #1 ON PAN EUROPEAN CHART AS EUROPEAN CONCERTS DRAW RAVES
BBC CONCERT SPECIAL TO AIR THIS WEEKEND
Bruce Springsteen has earned incredible success surrounding his European tour. Meanwhile, 'We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions' (Columbia Records) debuted at #1 on Pan European chart, as well as #1 in Italy, Norway and Sweden. Overall, it has charted in the top five in twelve European countries. The new album has already attained Platinum certification in Ireland and Gold status in the UK, Italy, Spain and Norway.
Concert reviews for Springsteen with the Seeger Sessions Band have been exemplary. The Independent (UK) reviewed the first concert of the European tour, May 6 in Dublin, saying, "It©ˆs been an astonishingly rich evening... his music has rarely sounded more spontaneous or vitalizing than this." The Observer (UK) said that "Springsteen and the Seeger Session band were an inspiring triumph.©˜ Le Parisien (France) called Springsteen's concert "colorful, vivid, and relaxed."
The BBC will air an intimate concert filmed recently at the 18th century St. Luke's Church in London. Eight songs will be interspersed with a revealing interview with Springsteen. The special will be broadcast on BBC4 TV on Friday, May 19 and BBC2 TV on Saturday, May 20. The Observer dubbed the show "an early frontrunner for the concert of the year," continuing, "this was a titanic performance."
