The Iridium adds a new chapter to its storied history this April when it launches IridiumLive , a new record label devoted to audiophile quality live recordings from the club. Jane Monheit and The Les Paul Trio will celebrate the first release--a jazz compilation featuring Les' Trio with Nels Cline of Wilco , Stanley Jordan , Jane Monheit , and Bucky Pizzarelli --with a record release show April 2. Read on for April's other highlights:
4/2: IridiumLive Release Party feat. Jane Monheit w/ The Les Paul Trio - Recorded live with the club's state-of-the-art 32-track HD studio by Grammy-nominated producer Doug Yoel, 'Les Paul Trio And Friends: A Jazz Tribute to Les' (out 4/3) features special guests Nels Cline of Wilco, jazz guitar legends Stanley Jordan and Bucky Pizzarelli, and vocalist extraordinaire Jane Monheit. Celebrate the launch with this special Les Paul Monday performance by Monheit and the Trio.
4/5-8: The Collective feat. Mike Stern, Jimmy Cobb, Buster Williams, and Javon Jackson - It would be tough to fit any more jazz giants onto one stage, as guitarist Mike Stern, saxophonist Javon Jackson, bassist Buster Williams, and drummer Jimmy Cobb come together as The Collective for four consecutive nights.
4/9, 4/12-15: Wayne Krantz w/ The Les Paul Trio, CD Release Parties - While Krantz has performed as a sideman with Steely Dan, Michael Brecker, Billy Cobham, and more, he's most well-known for his ferocious solo work as a jazz fusion guitarist. He'll perform Monday 4/9 with the Les Paul Trio, and return later in the week for a special run of CD release shows with Chris Potter, Anthony Tidd, and Cliff Almond (4/12-13) and Keith Carlock and Tim Lefebvre (4/14-15).
4/20-22: Richie Kotzen - With a pedigree that includes recording and touring with everyone from Poison to Stanley Clarke and opening for The Rolling Stones, Richie Kotzen is one of the most diverse guitarists around. On 4/20 and 4/22, he'll perform one 90-minute set only--featuring one of his full albums its entirety each night--and on 4/21 he'll perform the traditional 8 and 10pm sets.
4/26-29: Kenny Garrett Quintet - Considered the preeminent alto saxophonist of his generation, Grammy-winner Kenny Garret came to early fame during his youth as a member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra and Miles Davis' band. He'll close out April at The Iridium with a four-night run featuring his quintet.
