Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band ANNOUNCE THIRD PHILADELPHIA SHOW
Tickets go on sale SATURDAY, APRIL 12 at 10:30am
First concert events ever in brand new Lincoln Financial Field
In response to fans' continuing demand, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band announce a third stadium show in Philadelphia. Tickets for the Monday, August 11th show in Philadelphia's brand new Lincoln Financial Field go on sale Saturday, April 12th at 10:30am. This show is in addition to the August 8th and 9th shows already scheduled at Lincoln Financial Field.
Tickets for the Philadelphia show can be purchased through Ticketmaster by phone (215-336-2000 or 856-338-9000), online (www.ticketmaster.com, www.lincolnfinancialfield.com), First Union Center box office and by cash only at the Electric Factory Concerts box office (1231 Vine Street in Philadelphia.)
The announcement follows Springsteen and the Band's history making ticket sales for July and August concerts at East Rutherford, NJ's Giants Stadium. On March 1, demand for three originally announced dates (July 15, 17, 18) was so great, two additional dates (July 21, 24) were added at 12 noon. Sales continued to be strong, prompting an additional two dates to go on sale at 2:30 PM (July 26, 27). This marked the first time in the history of Ticketmaster that seven stadium shows for one artist went on sale in a single day. March 8, tickets for two more shows (August 28 and 30) went on sale, breaking the all-time record for the longest series of stadium concerts by any performer. The tenth show added March 8 (August 31) in response to high demand for the August 28 and 30 dates sets the bar even higher. Springsteen will now play as many dates in Giants Stadium in 2003 as the New York Giants. A limited number of tickets for these shows are still available.
The 2003 tour builds on a successful 2002 for Springsteen and the E Street Band, in which Bruce won three Grammy Awards for his latest album 'The Rising,' CBS Television aired Springsteen and the E Street Band's first ever broadcast network special, and the Band resumed its 2002-2003 world tour with a performance in the Atlanta, GA area.
'The Rising,' Springsteen's first album of new songs with the E Street Band since 1984, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and has been certified double platinum. Throughout 2002, Springsteen and the Band embarked on a barnstorming tour of North America and Europe, during which they performed in a total of 45 cities in nine different countries before the end of the year. They've just returned from Australia and New Zealand, where they played their first shows there since 1988. U.S. and Canada dates continue through early 2003, beginning February 28 in Duluth, GA, as well as a second sold-out European swing.
"To be able to, in our very first major musical event at Lincoln Financial Field, host a performer the likes of Bruce Springsteen is truly something special," said Philadelphia Eagles President Joe Banner. "It's great for the city of Philadelphia and, of course, for the legion of Springsteen fans in this area.
"If you go back to what Mayor Street said when so many people were working to put the stadium deal together -- 'To be a world class city we need to have world-class facilities' Æ well, now not only will we have a phenomenal venue in Lincoln Financial Field, but we will have a pair of world-class events to open the building. International soccer powers Manchester United and FC Barcelona will square off on August 3rd and Bruce Springsteen will be on stage just days later. This truly is a benefit for the city both financially and in terms of the level of entertainment available to residents."
The configuration of Lincoln Financial Field will bring all fans much closer to the stage than was the case at previous outdoor events in Philadelphia. Along the sidelines in the new stadium, for example, the front row is just 55 feet from playing field.
